Scholar says math “is really pretty simple”

Subjects like trigonometry and calculus are really pretty simple once you get the hang of it. So says San Diego Education Fund Scholar Jesus Cortez. A graduate of James Madison High School, Jesus says teachers who did a great job explaining got him hooked on math. Today, his goal is to teach high school math. He’s crushing his courses at San Diego Mesa College, where he participates as a Mesa Olympian and as a mentor for the Peer Navigator program. You still might find Jesus at Madison — the former captain of the school’s badminton team continues to volunteer for the team. His resume also shows experience as a viola player for the school orchestra and junior ROTC. He was active with the Circle of Friends. We salute Jesus for his many accomplishments and know he’ll make many more!
