A celebration of success

San Diego Education Fund Scholars and Alumni celebrated their accomplishments over slices of pizza during an end of year celebration at Filippi’s Pizza Grotto.

The young men and women had plenty to smile about. Some of them basked in the glow of just-earned college degrees. Others celebrated finishing high school and the anticipation of starting college.

Members of San Diego Education Fund’s Board of Directors gave students the encouragement they deserved.

“Take advantage of office hours and make an appointment to see your professors,” Board President Mary Montgomery said.  “They will remember the students who meet them personally.

Board Member Sharon Whitehurst-Payne told students to develop their ability to adapt. “Things keep changing,” she said.

Treasurer Maureen Lamberti joined the celebration as District Liaison Kimberly Moore awarded Certificates of Scholarship.

Graduating scholars included Hy Huynh, Andrea Tran, Sara Toumi, Kassandra Delacruz, Sophia Leon, Tert Serano and Fowsiyo Aden.

New scholars for 2023-24 are Saynab Aden, Hajir Al Obaidi, Rhilo Sotto, Abigail Gonzalez and Daphne Nguyen.
