A passion for the classroom

As a young student, Abigail Gonzalez would stay late to help her teachers set up classrooms for their next lessons.

At Patrick Henry High School, Abigail thrived in the Advancement Via Individual Determination program. AVID fosters a safe and open culture of collaboration and high expectations for teachers and students alike.

“I always had a passion for being in the classroom,” Abigail told the San Diego Education Fund Board of Directors Nov. 4.

Abigail attends Grossmont College as a next step toward earning credentials to teach elementary grades. Between her liberal arts studies, caring for a little brother and working part-time at a yogurt shop, her schedule is plenty full.

“San Diego Education Fund is a great help,” Abigail said, “academically and financially.”
