Aspiring mechanical engineer is a problem solver

Building things. Solving problems.  Serving the community.

Amy Perez excels at all three.

As she wraps up four years of straight As at High Tech High, her next challenge will be to earn a mechanical engineering degree with support from a San Diego Education Fund scholarship.

We’re proud of her academic accomplishments and impressed with her volunteer work with I Love a Clean San Diego, internship with The Studio Door and commitment to school projects and clubs.

Inspired by Tinker Bell and her miraculous inventions, Amy put together a craft box and tools at an early age.

“I was most proud of the projects that solved a problem,” she said. “Excess paper was recycled into a weaved basked, unrecycled plastic bags were crocheted into a mat, and toilet paper rolls became flowers.”

Amy is determined to apply her skills to improve the environment and serve her community. We can only imagine the things Amy will move on to build. Congrats, Amy!
